This pair of Israeli photographers has collaborated on a two-year project of photographing deserted army camps in their homeland. The completed work, titled "Necropolis: Military Spaces," recontextualizes the eerie, abandoned sites as archeological ruins and decaying monuments. The haunting images emulate sociological and anthropological findings that offer insight into the mythical importance of the army in Israeli culture. Glen Helfand |
| The terrain of the Holy Land is nothing if not problematic: just the sort of landscape that offers rich metaphorical options to socially conscious artists. This traveling group exhibition finds contemporary Israeli artists using images of the desert, holy sites and the pervasive militaristic impulses that are constantly present in the culture to deconstruct myths and stereotypes of Israeli society. The works of painting, photography, sculpture and installation offer unique insight into this troubled territory. Glen Helfand
